8 lightweight Linux distros to revive your old PC
Do you have an old PC that you don’t want to throw away? It may be slow with Windows, but all is not lost! With a lightweight Linux distro, you can turn it into the perfect machine for browsing, writing documents and doing small tasks.
In this article, I’ll show you the 8 best lightweight Linux distributions I’ve tested, with boot times, RAM consumption and my personal impressions. At the end, you’ll also find a trick to speed up your PC: ZRAM.
๐ What do I mean by โold PCโ?
I’m talking about computers with:
- 1 or 4 GB of RAM
- Outdated processors (including 32-bit)
- Slow mechanical HDD (to be replaced with SSD)
If this applies to you, keep reading: these distros are perfect for you.
โ The 8 best lightweight Linux distros for older PCs

- Architecture: 64-bit
- Minimum RAM: 2 GB (meglio 4 GB)
- Iso size: 3 GB
